The National Palliative Care Research Center (NPCRC) is accepting Letters of Intent online for its pilot/exploratory project support grants and junior faculty career development awards in palliative care. The NPCRC focuses on 3 specific areas: pain and symptom management, improving communication between providers and patients, and the evaluation of models of care for palliative care delivery. The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites applications for Program Projects for Nursing Science Research on Interventions in Chronic Illness (P01). MAYDAY PAIN & SOCIETY FELLOWSHIP
The application season for the 2007 Mayday Pain & Society Fellowship; A Media & Policy Fellows Initiative has just been extended to July 1, 2007, so there’s still time to apply. The fellowship trains leaders to become proficient at working with the media and policymakers on important issues in pain treatment and management. The program starts with a four-day communications and policy training in Washington, D.C., from October 22-25, 2007.

The Practice Change Fellows program is designed to develop health care leaders who can effectively promote high quality care to older adults. Up to ten Practice Change Fellows will be selected through a national competition. Fellows receive $90,000 over the two-year program and work with accomplished national mentors to design, implement, and evaluate a new project.
To be eligible for the Practice Change Fellow program, applicants must hold a leadership role in a health organization or institution and have service line or programmatic responsibility for care to older adults. They must be senior enough in their organization to have decision-making authority and be able to effectuate change.

The National Cancer Institute is offering a Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) Fellowship, a one-year advanced pre-doctoral or post-doctoral position in the area of evaluation with an emphasis on transdisciplinary research and collaboration. This is a full-time position within the Behavioral Research Program of the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) of the National Cancer Institute and will be based in their Rockville, Maryland office. The position will allow the applicant to interact with a large number of scientists representing the disciplines of medicine, basic sciences, psychology, epidemiology, public health, nursing, social work, sociology, and medical anthropology at the NCI, the NIH and at institutions around the country. Two-year grants of $25,000 per year will be provided to outstanding doctoral students doing dissertation research on older adults and/or their families. The grant is intended to enhance quality research and professional development, supplement academic career guidance, and build upon peer networking opportunities through various institutes and meetings. The program is funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation and administered by The Gerontological Society of America (GSA). It is a component of the nationwide Geriatric Social Work Initiative (GSWI), which seeks to expand the training of social workers that can improve the health and well-being of older persons and their families.
