Mom with ALS finds way through long goodbye

After 18 months of unexplainable symptoms, Aimee Chamernik was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, also known as ALS. ALS is a degenerative condition of the nervous system for which there is no known cure. The average life expectancy after an ALS diagnosis is two to five years, and it has been two-and-a-half years since Chamernik was diagnosed. In the meantime, she says she has tried to be as honest as possible with her three children — ages 9, 7 and 3 — and to love them in every way she can.
